Bitcoin is a decentralizedx digital currency that may be sent from user to user on the peer-to-peer bitcoin network without the use of intermediaries. It has no central bank or single administrator. Network nodes use cryptography to verify transactions, which are then stored in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. Satoshi Nakamoto, a pseudonym for an unknown individual or group of people, created the cryptocurrency in 2008. When the currency's implementation was released as open-source software in 2009, it went into usage.

Balances

The block chain is a decentralized public ledger that underpins the entire Bitcoin network. The block chain contains all confirmed transactions. It enables Bitcoin wallets to calculate their spendable balance in order to verify new transactions and ensure that they are genuinely owned by the spender. Cryptography is used to ensure the block chain's integrity and chronological order.

Transactions

A transaction is a value transfer that is recorded in the block chain between Bitcoin wallets. Bitcoin wallets store a private key, also known as a seed, which is used to sign transactions and provide a mathematical proof that they came from the wallet's owner. The signature also stops anyone from altering the transaction once it has been issued. All transactions are broadcast to the network and, through a process known as mining, are usually validated within 10-20 minutes.

Processing (Mining)

Mining is a distributed consensus technique that includes pending transactions in the block chain to confirm them. It keeps the block chain in chronological order, protects the network's neutrality, and allows multiple computers to agree on the status of the system. Transactions must be packed in a block that adheres to very tight cryptographic requirements that will be validated by the network in order to be confirmed. These restrictions make it impossible to change prior blocks because doing so would invalidate all subsequent blocks. Mining also provides a competitive lottery, preventing anyone from readily adding new blocks to the block chain in a sequential order. No group or individual can control what is included in the block chain, nor can they replace parts of the block chain to roll back their own spends in this way.

Ethereum provides everyone, regardless of background or location, with open access to digital money and data-friendly services. It's the technology that powers the cryptocurrency ether (ETH) and thousands of other apps available today.

Banking for everyone

Financial services are not available to everyone. However, all you need is an internet connection to use Ethereum and its lending, borrowing, and savings tools.

A more private internet

To utilize an Ethereum app, you do not need to submit all of your personal information. Ethereum is establishing a value-based economy rather than one based on surveillance.

A more private internet

To utilize an Ethereum app, you do not have to give all of your personal information. Ethereum is constructing a value-based economy rather than a surveillance-based economy.

Censorship-resistant

Ethereum is not under the authority of any government or corporation. Because of this decentralization, it is practically hard for anyone to prevent you from accepting payments or accessing Ethereum services.

Commerce guarantees

Ethereum makes the playing field more level. Customers have a secure, built-in guarantee that cash will only be sent if you deliver exactly what was promised. To do business, you don't need the clout of a major corporation.

Compatibility for the win

Because Ethereum goods are compatible by default, better products and experiences are being developed all the time. Companies can benefit from each other's achievements.

What Makes Ethereum Unique?

The concept of a blockchain smart contract platform was first introduced by Ethereum. Smart contracts are internet-based computer programs that automatically carry out the steps required to complete a contract between many parties. They were created to eliminate the need for trusted middlemen between contractors, lowering transaction costs while enhancing transaction reliability.

Ethereum's main innovation was creating a platform that allowed it to execute smart contracts on the blockchain, which adds to the benefits of smart contract technology already in place. According to Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood, the blockchain was created as a kind of "one computer for the entire globe," capable of making any software more resilient, censorship-resistant, and fraud-resistant by running it on a globally dispersed network of public nodes.

The ERC-20 compatibility standard allows Ethereum's blockchain to hold additional cryptocurrencies, known as "tokens," in addition to smart contracts. To date, more than 280,000 ERC-20-compliant tokens have been launched on the ETH platform, making it the most popular usage of the network. USDT, LINK, and BNB, for example, are among the top-100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. There has been a significant surge in interest in the ETH to PHP market since the introduction of Play2Earn games.

Unlocking the Power of Blockchain

The current global payments infrastructure does not meet today’s business or consumer demands. By unlocking the power of blockchain and digital asset technology, financial institutions can dramatically improve the speed, cost and reliability of how people transact around the world.

Creating an Inclusive Financial System

Our solutions unify the infrastructure underlying global payments. But it doesn’t stop there. Through the power of decentralized financial technology, institutions and the businesses and people they serve have access to an open and inclusive system no matter where they are in the world.

Accelerating the Internet of Value

This new era in global finance takes shape in the Internet of Value (IoV)—a world where money moves like information does today. Like the internet’s impact on information sharing and communication, the IoV will serve as an explosive catalyst for value exchange: spawning a new chapter in globalization, redefining entire industries and giving rise to new ones.

In a nutshell, Cosmos bills itself as a project that solves some of the “hardest problems” facing the blockchain industry. It aims to offer an antidote to “slow, expensive, unscalable and environmentally harmful” proof-of-work protocols, like those used by Bitcoin, by offering an ecosystem of connected blockchains.

The Cosmos network consists of many independent, parallel blockchains, called zones, each powered by classical Byzantine fault-tolerant (BFT) consensus protocols like Tendermint (already used by platforms like ErisDB). Some zones act as hubs with respect to other zones, allowing many zones to interoperate through a shared hub. The architecture is a more general application of the Bitcoin sidechains concept, using classic BFT and Proof-of-Stake algorithms, instead of Proof-of-Work. Cosmos can interoperate with multiple other applications and cryptocurrencies, something other blockchains can’t do well. By creating a new zone, you can plug any blockchain system into the Cosmos hub and pass tokens back and forth between those zones, without the need for an intermediary.

While the Cosmos Hub is a multi-asset distributed ledger, there is a special native token called the atom. Atoms have three use cases: as a spam-prevention mechanism, as staking tokens, and as a voting mechanism in governance.

As a spam prevention mechanism, Atoms are used to pay fees. The fee may be proportional to the amount of computation required by the transaction, similar to Ethereum’s concept of “gas”. Fee distribution is done in-protocol and a protocol specification is described here.

25:T663,The Internet Computer is the world’s first blockchain that runs at web speed with unbounded capacity. It also represents the third major blockchain innovation, alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum — a blockchain computer that scales smart contract computation and data, runs them at web speed, processes and stores data efficiently, and provides powerful software frameworks to developers. By making this possible, the Internet Computer enables the complete reimagination of software — providing a revolutionary new way to build tokenized internet services, pan-industry platforms, decentralized financial systems, and even traditional enterprise systems and websites. The project was founded in October 2016 by Dominic Williams, and attracted notable interest from the crypto community. DFINITY raised a total of $121 million from contributors such as Andreessen Horowitz, Polychain Capital, SV Angel, Aspect Ventures, Electric Capital, ZeroEx, Scalar Capital, and Multicoin Capital, and several notable early Ethereum supporters. In 2018, over 50,000 registerter participants received ICP utility tokens in an airdrop. On December 18, 2020, DFINITY launched the alpha mainnet of the Internet Computer. In a final step towards decentralization, on May 10, 2021, DFINITY launched the Internet Computer into the public domain. This major milestone means that the internet now functions as a decentralized global computer — marked by the release of all of the Internet Computer’s source code into the public domain, as well as ICP utility token allowing tens of thousands of community members to govern the Internet Computer network.26:T48e,

Litecoin (LTC) is a cryptocurrency that was designed to provide fast, secure and low-cost payments by leveraging the unique properties of blockchain technology.

To learn more about this project, check out our deep dive of Litecoin.

The cryptocurrency was created based on the Bitcoin (BTC) protocol, but it differs in terms of the hashing algorithm used, hard cap, block transaction times and a few other factors. Litecoin has a block time of just 2.5 minutes and extremely low transaction fees, making it suitable for micro-transactions and point-of-sale payments.

Litecoin was released via an open-source client on GitHub on Oct. 7, 2011, and the Litecoin Network went live five days later on Oct. 13, 2011. Since then, it has exploded in both usage and acceptance among merchants and has counted among the top ten cryptocurrencies by market capitalization for most of its existence.

The cryptocurrency was created by Charlie Lee, a former Google employee, who intended Litecoin to be a "lite version of Bitcoin," in that it features many of the same properties as Bitcoin—albeit lighter in weight.

Hedera is the most used, sustainable, enterprise-grade public network for the decentralized economy that allows individuals and businesses to create powerful decentralized applications (DApps).

It is designed to be a fairer, more efficient system that eliminates some of the limitations that older blockchain-based platforms face — such as slow performance and instability.

It was funded through an initial coin offering (ICO) in August 2018 and first launched open access to its mainnet just over a year later in September 2019. As part of the ICO, investors were able to purchase the platform’s native utility token (HBAR) at the lowest possible pricing.

The HBAR token has a dual role within the Hedera public network.

First and foremost, HBAR the fuel that powers Hedera services, such as smart contracts, file storage and regular transactions. Second, it's used to help secure the network, since HBAR users can stake their tokens to assist with maintaining the integrity of the platform.

Tokenizing the world’s largest decentralized file sharing protocol with BTT.

BTT is a TRC-10 utility token based on the blockchain that powers features of the most popular decentralized protocols and applications in the world. DApps powered by BTT include BitTorrent Speed, BitTorrent File System, DLive, and others in the pipeline.

BitTorrent is a popular peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing and torrent platform which has become increasingly decentralized in recent years.

Originally released in July 2001, BitTorrent was purchased by blockchain platform TRON in July 2018.

Since its acquisition, BitTorrent has added various new tools, with a dedicated native cryptocurrency token, BTT, released in February 2019. BTT was launched on TRON’s own blockchain, using its TRC-10 standard.

According to its official literature, BitTorrent is currently the “largest decentralized P2P communications protocol” in the world.

BitTorrent Speed

Get faster download speeds and BTT token rewards.

BitTorrent Speed is available as a feature of BitTorrent and µTorrent Web, as well as µTorrent Classic.

With BitTorrent Speed enabled, downloaders will have the option of providing tokens to uploaders in exchange for faster download speed. By introducing an incentive of earning BTT tokens, uploaders have a reason to seed files longer, and to dedicate more of their bandwidth and storage to other torrent clients in the network. BTT, which serves as a crypto torrent token in BitTorrent Speed, is responsible for powering a healthier BitTorrent protocol.

RUNE is the base currency and is required to be provided along side every asset in pools.

Without a native settlement currency, each asset would need to be pooled with every other asset, which would eventually result in hundreds of new pools to be created for just one new asset, diluting liquidity.

If THORChain supported 1,000 chains, it would only need 1,000 pools. A competitor would need a whopping 499,500 pools… try to make those deep and useful.

Illiquid pools are the enemy (ᚱ) RUNE fights.

Since (ᚱ) RUNE is bonded to assets in its pools, then as the value of those assets increase, then the (ᚱ) RUNE value will also increase.

This means the system can become "aware" of the value of the assets it is trying to secure.

Once it is aware of the value of the assets it is securing, it can use incentives to ensure security of those assets.(ᚱ) RUNE is worth 3X the value pooled of assets like BTC, ETH or BNB in its network

It’s Used by Nodes as Bond

Sybil-resistance refers to the ability to prevent someone masquarading as many identities in order to overcome a network.

THORChain could be called a Proof of Bond network. In THORChain the nodes commit a (ᚱ) RUNE bond i.e. minimum of 1,000,000 (ᚱ) RUNE in order to be churned into the network.

If the node attempts to steal assets, then their bond is deducted to the amount of the assets they stole (1.5X), and the pools are made whole. Additionally, nodes have to perform a lot of mandatory services, else their (ᚱ) RUNE bond is deducted.

It’s Used to Secure Assets

The Incentive Pendulum ensures that nodes are incentivised to continually buy and bond enough (ᚱ) RUNE each time to maximise their gains - which is a maximum when there is 67% of RUNE bonded and 33% pooled in pools. If the pools are holding $1M in capital, then the value of RUNE in the aggregrate bond is $2M. Thus all assets can be underwritten.

The bond is extremely liquid - any (ᚱ) RUNE holder can immediately enter or exit their position since (ᚱ) RUNE is the settlement asset in all pools. Thus, when a node churns in, the cost basis of their bond is known to them and not an arbitrary "paper" figure. This means a node bonding $1M in RUNE will never contemplate making a decision to steal <$1M in capital from the network, else they will lose overall.

It Signals Listing and Delisting

While THORChain strives to be governance-minimal, there are some parts of the protocol that use committed capital to signal priority. This is the case for the asset listing process, where every three days a new asset can be listed as a pool. In a queue of standby assets, the one with the deepest commitment of RUNE is the one that is listed first.

Additionally, if a connected chain is no longer economically valuable, then all Liquidity Providers in that chain can leave. If a pool is empty, it will be delisted, and this will cause the network to immediately sever ties with that chain in a process called a "ragnarok".

It Incentivizes The Network

(ᚱ) RUNE is the native currency of THORChain and is consumed as transaction fees on the network. All swaps are charged both a fixed network fee, as well as a dynamic slip-based fee. This prevents various attack paths such as denial-of-service attacks, as well as sandwich attacks on a pool.

The network continually consumes gas as it makes transactions. Nodes are free to use at-will the base assets BNB.BNB, ETH.ETH, BTC.BTC, etc in order to pay for gas. These assets are used directly from the vaults. THORChain then observes outgoing transactions, reports on the gas used, and then pays back the Liquidity Providers in those pools to the value of twice the amount of gas used, in (ᚱ) RUNE.

After fees are charged and gas is subsidised, THORChain computes the block reward, divides it based on the Incentive Pendulum algorithm, and then pays out to Bonders and Liquidity Providers.

This drives Nodes to bond the optimal amount, and pays Liquidity Providers for their contribution of liquidity.

It Amplifies the Pooled Assets

The price of assets is decided by the exchange which is most liquid. It’s also the reason why THORChain will set its own price, as it (ᚱ) RUNE will be most liquid within its own network.

(ᚱ) RUNE will pull in liquidity from every corner of the cryptosphere, creating incredibly deep pools. Eventually these pools will become so liquid they’ll start to affect the price of the paired asset in the same way as BTC and ETH currently do.

This phenomenon will first be observed on pooled assets which are very illiquid outside of THORChain. Larger market cap assets will follow once the liquidity pools become deeper.

What Is the Keep Network (KEEP)?

Keep is an incentivized network for storing and encrypting private data on the public blockchain. The network is made of off-chain containers for private data known as keeps, while the KEEP work token enables it to be completely permissionless. Keep solves the main problem holding back blockchain adoption: that data on public blockchains are public. With Keep, developers can finally build fully decentralized apps. Visit Keep to learn more and stake, and tBTC to see its power in action.

tBTC, a Bitcoin bridge on Ethereum, is the first application built on top of the Keep network. It is an open-source project supported by groups including Keep, Summa and the Cross-Chain Group. tBTC is a fully Bitcoin-backed ERC-20 token pegged to the price of Bitcoin. It facilitates Bitcoin holders acting on the Ethereum blockchain, accessing the DeFi ecosystem, and earning with their Bitcoin.

KEEP is the network’s native work token with dividends and a slashing model. It provides the sybil resistance that allows the Keep network to be censorship resistant and permissionless.

LRC is the Ethereum-based cryptocurrency token of Loopring, an open protocol designed for the building of decentralized crypto exchanges.

In 2020, the average daily trading volume of the entire cryptocurrency market fluctuated in the approximate range of $50-$200 million. Most of that trading is conducted on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges — online platforms operated by private companies that store users’ funds and facilitate the matching of buy and sell orders.

Such platforms have a number of downsides common to all of them, so a new type of exchange — decentralized— has emerged to try to alleviate these disadvantages. However, fully decentralized exchanges are not without their own flaws.

Loopring’s purported goal is to combine centralized order matching with decentralized on-blockchain order settlement into a hybridized product that will take the best aspects of both centralized and decentralized exchanges.

LRC tokens became available to the public during an initial coin offering (ICO) in August 2017, while the Loopring protocol was first deployed on Ethereum mainnet in December 2019.

Voxies is a free-to-play, 3D turn-based tactical RPG game on blockchain. The main gameplay of Voxies is similar to a traditional RPG and tactical game, but it is powered by blockchain technology and ownership is central to the core concepts of the game. As a team-based tactical game, players can control multiple characters in the game and each character can be represented by Voxies that are directly owned as NFTs, or provided by the game for free-to-play players.

Players do not require any experience with cryptocurrencies to play the game and do not need to own Voxie NFTs to earn Voxel tokens through their in-game activities. Voxies will be able to have greater player adoption, as players do not require any capital to get started. Voxies in-game mechanics (marketplace, equipment crafting, and PvP battles) will be the primary demand driver for VOXEL tokens.

VOXEL is Voxies native utility token and will be used as the currency inside the Voxie Tactics game and will be utilized for all in-game functionality, such as purchasing new weapons, armor or items to use in the game. VOXEL tokens can also be earned by playing the game and doing certain tasks — for example after each battle you will be rewarded with VOXEL tokens (and potentially rarer NFT item rewards!) depending on the success of the battle. Exploration mode will also present ways to ‘find’ and collect VOXEL token, helping out NPCs in the world and completing quests for them is another way to potentially earn rewards and VOXEL tokens.

Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based trading and battling game that is partially owned and operated by its players.

To learn more about this project, check out our deep dive of Axie Infinity.

Inspired by popular games like Pokémon and Tamagotchi, Axie Infinity allows players to collect, breed, raise, battle and trade token-based creatures known as Axies.

These Axies can take various forms, and there are more than 500 different body parts available, including aquatic, beast, bird, bug, plant and reptile parts. Parts from each type class come in four different rarity scales: common, rare, ultra rare and legendary — and Axies can have any combination of body parts, making them highly variable and often rare and unique.

Theta (THETA) is a blockchain powered network purpose-built for video streaming. Launched in March 2019, the Theta mainnet operates as a decentralized network in which users share bandwidth and computing resources on a peer-to-peer (P2P) basis. The project is advised by Steve Chen, co-founder of YouTube and Justin Kan, co-founder of Twitch.

Theta features its own native cryptocurrency token, THETA, which performs various governance tasks within the network, and counts Google, Binance, Blockchain ventures, Gumi, Sony Europe and Samsung as Enterprise validators, along with a Guardian network of thousands of community-run guardian nodes.

Developers say that the project aims to shake up the video streaming industry in its current form — centralization, poor infrastructure and high costs mean that end users often end up with a poor experience. Content creators likewise earn less revenue due to the barriers between them and end users.

Monero was launched in 2014, and its goal is simple: to allow transactions to take place privately and with anonymity. Even though it’s commonly thought that BTC can conceal a person’s identity, it’s often easy to trace payments back to their original source because blockchains are transparent. On the other hand, XMR is designed to obscure senders and recipients alike through the use of advanced cryptography. The team behind Monero say privacy and security are their biggest priorities, with ease of use and efficiency coming second. It aims to provide protection to all users — irrespective of how technologically competent they are. Overall, XMR aims to allow payments to be made quickly and inexpensively without fear of censorship.
